Here are the statistics that support the reasons why our efforts are concentrated upon disadvantaged and disenfranchised youth and single parents in Wilson County (and small components of Wayne County). The subsequent statistics indicate Wilson County’s community needs. Per the 2015 census statistics for Wilson County: *Wilson County is ranked 6th in the state of North Carolina for unemployment;
• Wilson County is ranked 6th in the state of North Carolina for unemployment;
• Wilson County has the largest proportion of unmarried females with children and in poverty at 66% of the total and is ranked #1 compared to other counties in the state;
• Additionally, regarding key poverty statistics for groups based on marriage status, Wilson County has one of the largest proportions of married with children and in poverty at 24% of the total and is ranked #2 compared to other counties in the state; and
• Wilson County has the largest proportion of unmarried with children and in poverty at 60% of the total and is ranked #1 compared to other counties in the state;
Kingdom Builders’ mission is achieved through the following goals and objectives:
(1) by providing literacy programs to improve the educational and economic lives of community youth and single parents;
(2) by providing participants the opportunity to take advantage of family/financial transformation activities;
(3) by providing information about job placement and job-related resources and services available to disadvantaged and disenfranchised youth and single parents; and
(4) by coordinating information and referrals for job placement for our program participants. Kingdom Builders, a NLC program, will continue it’s existing efforts to provide literacy training, job placement skills and job training referrals.
